The History Of The Web and Web Design

1989- CERN employee, Time Berners-Lee, proposes the inception of WWW.

1990- The first browser, the World Wide Web, is established.

1990- Adobe is released.

1990-Archie, the first search engine, is created.

1991- Gopher is released as a new web browser.

1993- The Mosaic browser was designed by Eric Bina and Marc Andreessen.

1994- The World Wide Consortium (W3C) established the standards for the WWW.

1994- Andreessen founded the Mosaic Communications Corp that would become Netscape Communications and design the Netscape browser.

1994- Yahoo is created and surpasses all previous web browsers in popularity.

1995- Microsoft competes with Netscape after creating the Internet Explorer browser.

1998- Google becomes a widely popular search engine.

2002- Mozilla Firefox is invented.

2008- Google Chrome is generated to compete with Firefox as the faster web browser.

 

In 1989, the History of the Web begins with Tim Berners-Lee working at CERN, a European Organization for Nuclear Research. Berners-Lee created a proposal about a hypertext project that would eventually evolve into the first global web browser, the World Wide Web (WWW). Initially, the World Wide Web was designed with text-only web pages only to grow into the graphic design masterpiece it is today. In 1994, Tim Berners-Lee constructed the World Wide Web Consortium, also referred to as W3C. The W3C has over 400 members that work full-time on the development and continued evolution of the World Wide Web.

 

In 1995, Microsoft manufactures the popular competing browser, Internet Explorer. From 1996-1999, Microsoft and Netscape battled to become the leading browser. Following the technological revolution, new web design programs are established, such as JavaScript, Dynamic HTML, and Cascading Style Sheets to name a few. The mid-1990s also focused on Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

 

The History of Web Design guided future marketing and communication design lead to user experience design and interactive design. The user design experience refers to the ability of the user to understand the content and the foundations that allow websites to actually work. User experience involves webpage layouts and design. The user-friendly website, user experience design, and interactive design are categorized under the concept of user interface design. When referencing web design, the consideration of page layouts, graphic design, typography, and content are high in importance.

 

Web Design continues to grow and further advances in technology over the past few decades have only improved the quality of the user experience. Today, there are a variety of tools and programs that facilitate even the most beginner web designer to succeed in creating a well-functioning website. From the advances in graphic design, user interface design, search engine optimization (SEO) to the overall web design experience, the user-friendly World Wide Web continues to evolve and impress the masses, globally.
